YICC TEEN ISRAEL COMMISSION
AIPAC High School Summit was a great way to kick-start our YICC TEEN ISRAEL COMMISSION! Ten dedicated teen activists flew to Washington D.C under the supervision of Esther Levine and experienced a chance of a lifetime. Hundreds of Jewish students from all over the country met for the one purpose of learning how to better their knowlegde of current American-Israeli politics. The main point however, was learning how to lobby like a professional and on Tuesday, our last day, march to Capitol Hill and meet with Congressman Henry Waxman. Throughout the program we listened to sessions, toured the monuments, attended an Idan Raichel Concert, and listened to inspirational speeches. The highlight for most students howver, was visting the Holocaust Museum where the students were able to emotionally connect to their past. Students also enjoyed the free-choice sessions where you were allowed to choose which session you wanted to attend. The sessions ranged from public speaking to social networking to advocacy writing. The climax of the trip occured the last day on Capitol Hill where everyone was moved by the congresman's devotion to helping Israel. Overall, High School Summit was a success and we can't wait for more programs!
